Fixing What Winter Left Behind
Asphalt repair in Lehi is busiest every spring. Snowmelt gets into cracks and broken edges, freezes overnight and pushes the pavement apart. By March, a crack that was open in October can be a pothole. Patching the hole is only half the job. A lasting repair cuts out the damaged asphalt, fixes the base underneath and fills it with new hot asphalt compacted to match the surrounding surface.
Repair methods
- Remove and replace: saw-cut square edges, dig out damaged asphalt and wet base, compact new base and place hot asphalt. The most durable fix.
- Infrared: the old surface is heated, remixed with fresh material and rolled, leaving no seam. Only for damage that has not reached the base.
- Skin patch: a thin hot-mix layer over shallow, rough areas.
- Cold patch: a winter stopgap until permanent work can be done.
Settled trenches and garage edges
New subdivisions often have utility trenches that settle after a few years. The driveway sinks along a straight line where the trench was backfilled. Driveways can also settle near the garage where the ground around the foundation was not compacted well during construction. We cut out the low area, compact new base and patch it flush.
Edges and plow damage
Driveway edges with no support crumble into the yard. Plows and snow blowers chip the edge at the street. The fix is to saw back to firm asphalt, rebuild what is underneath and patch. Where edges keep breaking, we look at why, whether it is drainage, missing support or traffic, and fix that too.
Repair timing in Utah County
Permanent hot-mix repairs need warm ground, so most repair work happens from spring through fall. A January pothole gets a cold-mix stopgap so it is safe to drive over; the real repair waits for warmer ground. Spring is the busiest season, so booking early helps.
What we need to see
Photos of the damaged areas, the approximate size of each, and anything you know about the history, such as a utility line repair, a heavy delivery or water that pools in that spot, help us diagnose the cause before the visit.
When repair stops making sense
If repairs would cover a large share of the surface, or the cracks connect into a web across the driveway, the base has failed more broadly. At that point, replacement or an overlay over rebuilt sections usually gives better value. We tell you honestly where that line is.

Asphalt Repair Questions
Why do potholes show up every spring?
Freeze-thaw. Meltwater gets into cracks, freezes and expands. Over a winter, that breaks the pavement apart.
Can you fix potholes in winter?
We can place a temporary cold patch. Lasting hot-mix patches wait for warmer ground.
My driveway sank along a line. What is that?
Usually a settled utility trench. We cut out the low section, compact new base and patch it.
Should I repair or replace?
If damage is limited, repair. If it covers much of the driveway, replacement or an overlay is usually better value.
